Thanking God for "Divine Interruptions"

launch-party

We had an amazing Launch Party

a month ago! We were so encouraged by everyone who stopped by and we relished in the love we felt while we drove back home in the bus. It was a very inspiring day! It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a month since then.

We only had a couple things to wrap up on the bus before we planning to hit the road for our first destination–North Dakota. Install the water holding tanks, finish plumbing in the fresh water pump and have the passenger side windshield replaced. Didn’t seem like a whole lot to do, but here we are, a month later and well… take a look at these pictures and decide for yourself if it looks like we’re ready to take off…

Lets start with the windshields. The process started back in June, trying to find a replacement windshield and get it shipped out, finding an installer who would put it in, etc. Finally it all seemed to be coming together the beginning of September so we figured we’d have it replaced before we took off. JD took the old one out to do some rust treatment, and after a month the new one still is NOT in. The installer is hoping to be able to put it in the beginning of next week, but we’re not holding our breath. (We did temp the old one back in with green painters tape.)

On to the holding tanks. We were able to get them in the week after our send-off party, but because the new fresh water pump wasn’t in yet we couldn’t test them out. Finally, JD got the new pump in last week (it looked amazing!) but after just 1 day of use we realized that not just 1, but 2 of our 3 holding tanks were leaking! To say we were disappointed would be a huge understatement.

JD cut out all the new plumbing and water pump to be able to remove the holding tanks for repair, but in the process the heating pads on the bottom of the tanks ripped, which was another disappointment added to the list. By looking at the leaks and how complicated the water system is, it’s probably a good 20-30 hours of work to get them repaired and reinstalled.

All of this came down exactly 1 week ago, and it hit us hard.

We have been praying for God to be leading us and helping us do things quickly so we could get out on the road to share His love with others, but it seemed like everything we were doing was taking twice as long as it should. It just didn’t make sense. We needed to step back and gain some perspective. Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest through the trees, and that’s exactly where we were at. We couldn’t figure out why we were experiencing so many delays when our mission was clearly for God. We ended up taking 4 days to just step back from everything.

It was during this time that one of our good friends sent us a devotional called “Divine Interruption”. Right away we felt like that’s what we had been experiencing. God has been trying to get our attention for a while now but we’ve been too busy. We’ve been so busy doing work for Him but we’ve let our relationship with Him take a back burner. It was time for that to change.

Over the last couple of days we’ve been re-learning that God cares more about us than the work we are doing for Him. He wants our hearts, not just our time and energy. It’s easy to get so caught up in the “doing” that we miss the “being” (being his child and spending time with our loving Heavenly Father). The thing is, it’s difficult to measure how good you are at being a child of God, and it’s a whole lot easier to see how much stuff you’re doing for him. But that’s not what He wants. He wants us to spend time with him, to read his Word, to obey his commands, to fall in love with him. It’s out of this love for Him that everything else falls in line, but not into our line, His. We can see His purposes and direction in our lives so much easier when we stop focusing so much on our lives and focus on him. And it’s so much more fulfilling.

THE BOMBAY IS FINISHED!

It seems like a long time ago, but we did finally finish the bombay. We've been sleeping in the bus for the last month now, to "practice" bus living. The boys love it!
bombayfinished

Projects still to finish:

• Fix leaks in holding tanks and reinstall all the plumbing.
• Get windshield replaced
• Lots of other small things but we’re not really sure if we’re going to get to them before we take off. :)

Thanks for your prayers last month (we were able to finish the bombay & the solar setup) Please continue to pray for us, as we seek God direction, and purpose through these divine interruptions.
